Meghalaya: Deborah Marak inaugurates 50 Drums Matchi Wangala Festival

Williamnagar Dec 5,2017 : Meghalaya School Education and Literacy Minister, Deborah C Marak, inaugurated the one-day 50 Drums Matchi Wangala Festival, 2017, at Samanda Megapgre in the presence of East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Kumar today.

Inaugurating the festival, Deborah stressed on the need to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Matchis, one of the sub-tribes of the Garos and also to encourage the younger generation to initiate action for keeping the tradition of the region alive.

Addressing the gathering on the day, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Kumar, lauded the Garo Art and Culture Organization, Williamnagar, for its initiative for organizing this kind of festival with a view to preserve the tradition and culture of the people in this region.

In this colorful festival troupes from Rongsak, Rapdikgre, Williamnagar Art and Culture, Williamnagar Govt. College, Rongchekgre and Daribokgre participated

The other highlights of the festival included group and solo folk song competition, dance competition, tug of war, etc.
