Manipur: 48 hr general strike in 2 districts from today!

 |

The Kuki Students' Organization-GHQ have today decided to call a 48-hour general strike from midnight of January 6 in Chandel and newly created Tengnoupal district alleging the state govt failure to nab the culprits involved in the life attempt on Jangkholam Guite and Jamchinthang Manchong.

The student body mentioned that Jangkholam Guite, the president of KSO Gunpi Block and Jamchinthang Manchong, the vehicle driver had been accosted by KNLF cadres at Phouchakhai and shot in the head and leg on New Year day and were left to die but survived by providence.

The two victims are now recuperating in a hospital at Imphal, it added.

It also alleged that KNLF is one of the UG groups under Suspension of Operation Pact with the state and central government while adding that the recent shooting incident is in total contravention with the ground rules of SoO while it proved that UG groups under the tripartite pact have been violating the ground rules many times over. It further alleged that the cadres are allowed to venture outside their designated camps and they committed crimes against innocent civilians whenever it suits them.

Therefore the government's failure to rein in these UG cadres is strongly condemnable and it is the responsibility of the Government to ensure that armed cadres under SoO pact are confined in their respective camps for public safety, the student body said.
