ANTIGUA:

Shai Hope scored a brilliant century as West Indies cruised through the 1st One-Day International (ODI) match against Sri Lanka by eight wickets.

Hope and Evan Lewis provided a 143-run opening stand and effectively took the team towards the chase within the 48th over.

Sri Lanka, who batted first, scored 232 runs in 49 overs, with Danushka Gunathilaka and Dimuth Karunaratne scoring half-centuries.

The Sri Lankans looked good at the start of the innings, with the 1st wicket falling for 105.

However, after the 2nd wicket, the batting order collapsed to the tight West Indian bowling.

The Lankans kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and somehow managed a decent total of 233.

For the West Indies, Lewis made 65, and Darren Bravo scored 37 to wrap up the match.

In the bowling department, Jason Holder and Jason Mohammed took two wickets each.

The second match in the three-match series will be played on March 12 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
