AGARTALA:

Two people who returned to Tripura from the United Kingdom (UK) on December 28 were traced and tested by health authorities.

"While one tested positive, the other person tested negative," said Dr Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, Director of National Health Mission in Tripura.

Health authorities sent the positive samples to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) to see if they are infected with the new coronavirus strain from the UK.

A new strain of the coronavirus was recently discovered in England, and it is supposed to be 70 per cent more contagious than the original strain.

Following the discovery of the new mutant strain from the UK, many countries have suspended flights and sealed their borders.
