AGARTALA, Feb 19:

The president of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), Pijush Kianti Biswas has demanded that elections to Tripura Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) should be held on time to avoid constitutional crisis in the tribal areas.

"We want elections of TTAADC to be conducted before the expiry of present Council and the party has no reservation whether polls are held in 28 seats or 50 seats. The election must be held within the scheduled time", he told the media.

Recently, CEM of TTAADC Radha Charan Debbarma expressed his doubt over the timely elections in the tribal council in the wake of the state government's move to increase seat strength in TTAADC. Interestingly, the ruling BJP is yet to clear its stand on the timing of ADC elections.

Biswas said the party is on the way to forge alliance with like-minded parties for the ADC elections. "We want to put up a political resistance in the ADC elections and non-BJP and non-CPI (M) parties are welcome for electoral understanding", he said.

On the other hand, IPFT general secretary Mevar Kumar Jamtaia today said there will be a meeting between BJP and IPFT leaders on the electoral alliance for the ensuing ADC elections this week but the date for meeting has not been finalized.

However, sources said parlays have already begun between BJP and IPFT leaders to forge alliance for the ADC elections scheduled for May 17.
