Meghalaya: MDA partners ‘unhappy’ with James, want Conrad to take over Home deptt

Pressure is mounting on Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma to take away the Home department from his brother, James PK Sangma. Few of his Cabinet colleagues have even suggested that Chief Minister should take the Home department for himself.

It has been reported that many of the Cabinet Ministers in the MDA Government are unhappy with Home Minister, James K Sangma especially over his 'failure' to tackle the illegal transportation of coal and also on the alleged illegal collection of money at Dainadubi check gate in North Garo Hill.

"We have raised our unhappiness with the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma over the incapability of the Home to deal with the issue of alleged illegal transportation of coal. There is a general perception in the minds of the public that everyone in the Government is involved in this illegal transportation of coal racket. We have told the Chief Minister that he needs to take a call on stripping the Home department from James," few of Cabinet Ministers on condition of anonymity had stated.

It may be mentioned that few of the Cabinet Ministers had a closed door meeting few days back to discuss on this issue.

According to them, they were totally disappointed by this whole development especially when their credibility as Ministers in the Government is in question.

"Even the various political parties supporting the NPP led MDA Government have suffered in view of the alleged transportation of coal. This issue has affected everyone who is part of the Government," few of Cabinet Ministers said.

To a question on their next step if Conrad does not take action against James, they said that they have full faith on the Chief Minister that he would act. "It will be difficult to decide on their future course of action at the moment," the Cabinet Ministers said.

Meanwhile, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister and President of the PDF, Banteidor Lyngdoh had told reporters that Chief Minister should take charge of the Home department in place of James.

"He (James) has failed to handle the Home department. It will be better that the Chief Minister take over the department," Lyngdoh said.

Replying to a question, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister said that Chief Minister had sought time before taking any action against James.

It may be mentioned that even the UDP had demanded that Home department should be snatch away from James.

It was reported during the meeting attended by UDP president, Metbah Lyngdoh, Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong the issue alleged transportation of coal was discussed. The UDP leader had expressed in the meeting that Home department should be taken away from James if he fails to stop the alleged illegal transportation of coal.

Even the lone KHNAM MLA, Adelbert Nongrum, who is supporting the MDA, had also made the same demand.
