Meghalaya | KHADC imbroglio: UDP to serve showcause notice to Paul, Teibor

SHILLONG | FEB 4, 2020:

The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Monday decided to serve showcause notices to the party MDCs in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC)- Paul Lyngdoh and Teibor Pathaw- for extending support to the Chief Executive Member (CEM), Latiplang Kharkongor.

Lyngdoh and Pathaw were part of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and on Sunday, both had submitted a letter in support of Kharkongor.  In the joint letter addressed to the CEM, the two MDCs stated that they are extending support due to the prevailing crisis and impasse in the Council and the need to bring back the administration on track for the larger interests of the council.

It may mentioned that with the joining of the two MDCs, the strength of the United Democratic Forum (UDF) has gone up to 15 minus the chairman of the Council, PN Syiem while the strength of the UDA has been reduce to 13.

Talking to reporters after the meeting of the party, UDP general secretary informed that 24 hours time was given to the two party MDCs to reply to the show cause notices.

"We will send the show cause tonight itself. We will decide on the action to be taken to the two leaders after receiving their replies," Mawthoh said.  Pointing out that the party was in favour that Administrator Rule's should be invoke in the KHADC, he said that they are distressed with the prevailing political situation in the Council.

Meanwhile, KHADC CEM said that they are hoping that the Governor would approve the list of the Executive Members which was submitted to him.

Kharkongor said that both Lyngdoh and Pathaw would be inducted into the EC even as claiming that there are more MDCs from the UDA who are joining the UPF.

He, however ruled out that Nongshken MDC, Grace Mary Kharpuri would be inducted into the EC since she had already submitted to the Governor that she is not interested to take the post of Deputy CEM.
