Meghalaya KHADC by-poll: Sitting MLA Pius Marwein wins Langrin seat

SHILLONG | MARCH 3, 2020:

Sitting MLA from Ranikor constituency, Pius Marwein emerged victorious in the by election to the Langrin constituency of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

UDP candidate, Pius Marwein defeated his closest rival Jotin Khardewsaw of the Congress by a margin of 6979 votes. He got 13793 votes while Khardewsaw bagged only 6814.

The counting was held on Tuesday at Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. The polling was held on February 28.

Meanwhile, NPP candidate Kitborlang Nongrem got 3222 votes. 244 votes were cast on the NOTA option.

It is to be mentioned that the bye-election is necessitated in view of the demise of United Democratic Party (UDP) MDC, Nasar Marweiñ on October 28 last year.
