KHADC political imbroglio: Meghalaya govt examining the matter, says James

Meghalaya District Council Affairs Minister, James PK Sangma said that the State Government is examining the political situation in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

Informing that the Cabinet did not discuss the issue on the rejection of imposition Administrator's Rule in the KHADC by the Governor, he said that the issue is currently being examined by various concern departments including the DCA department and the Law department.

"We will take a final call on how to proceed ahead after we examine the matter," Sangma told reporters after the Cabinet meeting here today.

When asked on the delay to issue the notification on the election of the new CEM, he said that there are many instances in the past where there is a delay in the issue of the notification even after the CEM
was elected in the House.

"This is not a one-off instance where there was a delay in notifying the election of the new CEM. There were several similar instances in the past," Meghalaya DCA Minister said.

On the issuance of the order of by the Governor approving the election of the new CEM without consulting the DCA, Sangma said that the Government is also looking on this matter right now.

Meanwhile, Sangma also refused to make any comment on the rejection of the Governor to imposed AR in KHADC.

"I will not like to say anything on the comment made by the Governor," DCA Minister said.

When asked on the political situation in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), he said that he would not want to comment as the matter is sub-judice since they have gone to the court.
