"I demand that Sharma step down as he had earlier announced he would retire from public life if his daughter was found guilty in the APSC scam," PCC president Ripun Bora told a TV channel in New Delhi. Bora described it as a big scam.

Bora's demand came a day after Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) demanded Sharma's resignation on moral grounds.

Pallavi, an Assam Police Service officer, was among the 19 arrested on Wednesday.

Assam police on its official Twitter page said the number of people arrested in connection with the scam is 63, including 55 candidates, five officials-cum-brokers, the former APSC chairman and its two members.

After Pallavi's arrest, Sharma had claimed that there was a political conspiracy behind her arrest.
