PM Modi to hold meeting with CMs on COVID-19 spike

NEW DELHI:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting through video conferencing with the chief ministers of all states and Union Territories (UTs) on Wednesday to discuss the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country.

The meeting comes amidst a surge in COVID-19 cases in six states, including Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The last time Modi interacted with the chief ministers was in January before the vaccination roll-out.

India registered 28,903 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike this year.

The total COVID-19 tally now stands at 1,14,38,734, according to the health ministry data.

The death toll increased to 1,59,044 with 188 new fatalities, the highest in around two months, the data stated.
