NEW DELHI:

Delhi Police, on Friday, arrested three civil defence volunteers for allegedly issuing fake COVID-19 challans.

The accused identified as Sunny (19), Yashwant Rathi (21) and Lucky (20) were posted in the office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Jamnagar House, New Delhi.

Sources state that the accused issued fake challans to people as a penalty for not wearing masks.

The matter came to light on December 31, when a victim alleged that the volunteers issued him a challan of Rs 2,000 for violating COVID-19 guidelines.

The complainant, upon suspicion, reported the matter to the police.

Police investigated the matter and discovered that the challan was not issued by the SDM office.

Upon interrogation, the three volunteers confessed to the crime.
