Need to stop emerging second wave, PM tells Chief Ministers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, held a virtual meeting with the Chief Ministers of all states and Union Territories (UTs) concerning the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.

Modi said it was critical to stop what he called the “emerging second peak” of Covid with decisive steps.

“If we don’t stop this pandemic right now, then there could be a nationwide outbreak. We have to immediately stop the emerging second peak and take big and decisive steps,” Modi told the chief ministers.

Referring to the states which showed a high surge in the number of cases, he said that testing and vaccination are comparatively less in these states.

Modi also called for increased RT-PCR tests and to focus on smaller towns.

Besides this, the Prime Minister directed the Chief Ministers to put in place the protocols set by the Union Government.
