Stage set for Mamata's Trinamool Congress to bag West Bengal

The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is heading for victory in West Bengal. Although the final results are yet to be announced, the trend seems to be pointing in that direction.

Since the initial rounds of counting, Mamata Banerjee’s AITC was giving its closest rival – the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a run for its money.

The trends showed that the ruling party had already crossed the halfway mark in the state with 294 assembly seats.

As per the Election Commission’s trends, the AITC was ahead in 202 constituencies and the BJP in 77.

The ruling party had a vote share of 48.5 per cent, while the BJP had 37.5 per cent.
