NEW DELHI | AUG 05, 2020:

A Bihar Government's request for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death has been accepted, the Centre reportedly told the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

The move comes after 34-year old Rajput, acclaimed for movies such as Kedarnath, was found dead at his Mumbai residence in June, sparking controversy around the death.

A bench headed by Justice Hrishikesh Roy has also refused to grant a stay on actress Rhea Chakraborty's plea, seeking a transfer of an FIR from Patna to Mumbai that was filed against her by Rajput's father alleging abetment to suicide.

"Serious allegations have been leveled against her…now whether there is criminality involved needs to be investigated. Everyone has an opinion about high profile cases but we will proceed as per law," the Bench said.

A bench of Bombay High Court also heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) today which sought the transfer of Rajput's death case to the CBI.

The Court has reportedly adjourned the hearing till August 7.
