NEW DELHI:

The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, directed all states and union territories to implement 'One Nation One Ration Card' scheme by July 31, 2021.

The 'One Nation One Ration Card' scheme will allow migrant labourers to get ration benefits from any part of India, irrespective of the place where the ration card is registered.

A bench comprising of Justice Ashok Bhusan and Justice MR Shah said that 'One Nation One Ration Card' is an important citizen-centric reform that ensures nation-wide portability of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) Ration Card issued by the Government of India.

"Its implementation ensures availability of ration to beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and other welfare schemes, especially to the migrant workers and their families at any Fair Price shop across the country,' the Bench said while issuing directions to the states that have not implemented the scheme to implement the same latest by July 31.
