NEW DELHI:

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the centre to supply Delhi with 700 metric tonnes of oxygen every day to meet the city's requirements.

“Every single day, 700 MT oxygen must be given to Delhi hospitals. We need business and until that order is modified, please comply with our directions,” Justice Chandrachud said during the hearing of the matter in the top court.

The Court also said that the supply of oxygen from the centre to other states must be transparent and without any priorities.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier sought 700 tonnes of oxygen for COVID-19 patients in Delhi where the death rates continue to escalate.

Kejriwal also maintained that the city has been getting half the quantity of oxygen officially allocated to them.
