NEW DELHI:

As India recorded the highest ever single-day spike of over 1.84 lakh new cases on Wednesday, the chairman of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI), Dr NK Arora, said that political rallies, religious gatherings and Kisan Andolans are super-spreaders of COVID-19.

Arora's remarks come amid the reckless poll rallies and campaigns, including the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar.

"Unless these kinds of gatherings are stopped, the coming days will witness unprecedented growth, which will leave the government with no option but to impose lockdown," he said.

However, Arora asserted that he did not favour nationwide lockdown and stressed on halting gathering and festivities in states where the surge is highest.
