NEW DELHI:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, interacted with the Chief Ministers of all states and Union Territories amid India’s worsening COVID-19 surge and urged them to strengthen their efforts in controlling the disease over the next 2-3 weeks.

Modi directed all states to focus on aggressive testing and micro containment to break the transmission of the second wave.
He also appealed to the states to achieve 100 per cent vaccination and called for a “tika utsav” between the birth anniversaries of Jyotiba Phile (April 11) and BR Ambedkar (April 14).

“I appeal to you all to stress on COVID testing. Our target is to do 70 per cent RT-PCR tests. Let the number of positive cases be high, but do maximum testing,” Modi said.

Besides, he mentioned that states should have a target for tracing 30 contacts of a covid positive case.

“There is a need to improve the governance system. I understand that because of the one year battle, the system can experience tiredness, and there can be laxity, but we must tighten it to 2-3 weeks and strengthen the government,” Modi said.
