PM Modi holds meeting with political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi high-profile all-party meeting with the political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir concluded here in New Delhi on Thursday evening.

The meeting was attended by 14 prominent leaders of the union territory, who deliberated on a range of issues concerning the region.

This was the first high-level interaction between the centre and the political leadership from Jammu and Kashmir since August 5, 2019, when the centre had revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir-bifurcating the region into two union territories.

Several high-profile leaders participated in the meeting including Congress' Gulam Nabi Azad, National Conference's Dr Farooq Abdullah, and PDP's Mehbooba Mufti among others.

Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also attended the meeting alongside Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha.

It was informed that among the many things, one of the core areas of discussion was the restoration of Article 370 and 35A in the UT.

Other highlights of the meeting included terrorism in the valley and ways and means to work towards bringing peace in the region for prosperity and development of the region.

Sources informed that one of the key areas of discussions revolved around the need to strengthen democracy at the grassroots and work together with the people of Jammu and Kashmir to ensure their upliftment.
