PM Modi announces ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for kin of people killed in lightning strike

In addition to that, the Prime Minister also announced Rs 50,000 as compensation to those who got injured due to the strikes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of those who lost their lives due to lightning strikes in parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.


In addition to that, the Prime Minister also announced Rs 50,000 as compensation to those who got injured due to the strikes.


The Prime Minister expressed condolences over the deaths due to the lightning and stated that it was an unfortunate natural tragedy.


"The Prime Minister was briefed about the loss of lives and damages due to lightning in parts of Uttar Pradesh. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured," the office of the Prime Minister tweeted.


Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot also announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.


A total of 68 people died in separate lightning incidents across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the government stated, adding that many have been rescued and their treatment is going on.
