NEW DELHI:

Just a few days after the vaccine roll was paused for the 18-44 age group in Delhi due to shortage of doses, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday informed that Pfizer and Moderna have refused to sell vaccines directly to the Delhi Government, and claimed that they will only deal with the central government.

"We've spoken to Pfizer and Moderna for vaccines, and both the manufacturers have refused to sell vaccines directly to us. They have said they will deal with the central government," Kejriwal said.

He further added that the Delhi Government has appealed to the centre to import vaccines and distribute them to the states.

His statement comes a day after Punjab Government made a similar statement stating that Moderna has refused to sell vaccines to the state directly.

Kejriwal on Saturday had written to Prime Minister Modi for increasing the supply of vaccine doses adding that the supply has also decreased from the centre.

"Every month, Delhi needs 80 lakh dose, but it received only 16 lakh doses in May. For June, our share has been reduced further to eight lakhs doses," he said.

The International vaccine manufacturers have made it clear that they will not sell vaccines directly to the states and will deal with the central government directly. The central government would distribute the vaccine to the states after purchasing it.
