Massive landslide in Nepal claims nine lives

KATHMANDU | Sept 14, 2020:

Nine people were killed while 22 others were missing after a massive landslide triggered by overnight rainfall in Nepal.

A senior government official said that the incident took place at around 2:30 am when a huge mound of earth falling from the upper belt jolted Nagpuje, Bhirkharka and Newar Tole villages of Sindhupalchowk district.

Sindhupalchowk district is about 120 km east of Kathmandu city.

Chief of the District Police Office, Rajan Adhikari, said that seven bodies were retrieved from the incident site and two more bodies were recovered from Bhotekoshi and Sunkoshi rivers.

A joint team of Nepal Army, Police, and the Armed Police Force have been deployed to conduct rescue operations.
