DUBAI:

Six-time world champion MC Mary Kom lost the 51 kg final by a split decision to Kazakhstan's Nazym Kyzaibay at the Asian Boxing Championships held in Dubai on Sunday.

The 38-year-old made an impressive start and clinched the opening round comfortably by relying on her sharp counter-attacks. However, she lost in a split 2-3 verdict.

The intensity grew up in the second round when both the boxers showed aggressive strategies. The Kazakh drew level at this point, with her jabs landing perfectly.

In the third and the final round, Mary Kom made desperate attempts to recover the lost grounds, but Nazym proved a hard nut to crack.

The Manipuri legend also won prize money of USD 5,000 for her campaign, while Kyzaibay was richer by USD 10,000.
