Man sets 3 kittens on fire for fun; FIR lodged

In a case of cruelty to animals reported, a man from Mira Road was apprehended on Wednesday for allegedly setting three-month-old kittens on fire by placing them inside a burning carton that he lit near the building premises where they use to stay.

According to the police on Monday late night Siddhesh Patel allegedly lit a fire near the society passage in a box in which three kittens and a cat used to stay.

Though the cats and the kittens tried running out of the box he threw them again in the fire. The kittens suffered burn injuries and one of the kittens
sustained up to 60 per cent burn injuries, said the police.

After the incident came into light, the society residents approached Zara Merchant, an animal rights activist. Merchant approached the police and a complaint was registered.

The police have registered a case under Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11 of the Animals Protection Act, 1962. Patel has been released on bail.

One of the residents of the housing society is currently taking care of the kittens.
