Indian Railways on Saturday announced that a fine of up to Rs 500 would be imposed for spitting and for not wearing masks in trains and station premises.

This decision was made to curb the spread of COVID-19.

India reported a record one-day spike of 2,34,692 COVID infections over the last 24 hours, health ministry data said. 

It was the eighth record daily increase in the last nine days.
