India reports 40,134 new COVID cases, 422 deaths in last 24 hours

The country currently has 4,13,718 active COVID-19 cases, which is again less compared to the surge when COVID was at its peak during the second wave.

With 40,134 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours on Monday, India's COVID-19 cases continue to remain over the 40 thousand mark for six days in a row, informed the Union Health Ministry.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), India has to a large extent controlled the surge, however, few states such as Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha and others continue to show a substantial increase in the number of positive when compared to the national average.

The country currently has 4,13,718 active COVID-19 cases, which is again less compared to the surge when COVID was at its peak during the second wave.

India also recorded 422 COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours, a slight decrease from Sunday's death tally.

Meanwhile, a total of 36,946 patients recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours taking total recoveries to 3,08,57,467 since the beginning of the pandemic, the Union Health Ministry said.

 Further, India's recovery rate has reached 97.35 per cent, informed the Union Health Ministry and the daily positivity rate has remained below 5 per cent for 56 consecutive days.

The Union Health Ministry also revealed that India's COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 47.22 crore doses as a result of sustained collaborative efforts by the centre, states and union territories.
