Doctor arrested for raping married woman

In a shocking incident, a doctor hailing from Surat was arrested by police for allegedly raping a married woman at a hotel in city between 2013 and 2017.
The woman had registered a complaint of rape and criminal intimidation against Dr Nipul Mistry (name changed), a paediatrician , at Sayajigunj police station on Monday night.
According to the woman's complaint, Mistry got in touch with her when she and her husband shifted to Mumbai from Malaysia. The woman and the doctor had met each other through a matrimonial website.
However, her parents had turned down the proposal and she was married off to a chartered accountant. The woman alleged that Mistry contacted her through Facebook when she returned to Mumbai and wanted to meet her. When the woman showed readiness to meet, Mistry went to Mumbai and they met at a hotel where he allegedly raped her.
Later, they even met several times at a hotel in Sayajigunj where he raped her repeatedly. The woman even became pregnant and delivered a baby boy.
Police sources said that all this while she did not tell anyone, but her husband became suspicious around two years back when the son's blood group did not match with either of the parents. When her husband confronted, the woman told him about her contact with Mistry.
The woman then approached Mistry as he had allegedly promised to marry her. But when Mistry also refused to accept her, she approached the police.
Mistry was arrested following the complaint from his house in Singanpore
area of Surat on Tuesday.
Police officials said that Mistry runs a children's hospital in Surat. On Wednesday, a local court sent Mistry to judicial custody.
