NEW DELHI:

Actor and activist Deep Sidhu, who was accused in the January 26 violence and vandalism incident, was arrested by Delhi Police on Monday evening, officials said on Tuesday.

Last week, Delhi police had announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to Sidhu’s arrest.

“We have announced Rs. 1 lakh against Sidhu, Jugraj and two others because they appear to be the key conspirators. We have conducted raids at many places in Punjab and other states, but the suspects are absconding. The family members of some of them are also untraceable,” a senior officer, requesting anonymity, said on February 3.

Sidhu (36), was instigating the crowd during the tractor rally and violence at Red Fort, police said.

After the January 26 violence that had left over 500 security personnel injured and one protestor dead, Sidhu was posting videos on social media.

"Sidhu was in contact with a woman friend who lives in California. He used to make videos and send it to her, and she used to upload them on his Facebook account," police sources said.

"Sidhu kept changing his locations to evade arrest," they said.
