NEW DELHI:

With the COVID pandemic hitting the Indian economy and leaving many daily wage earners jobless, the Delhi government, on Tuesday, announced Rs 5,000 each to all autorickshaw and taxi drivers in addition to free ration to all ration card holders for the next two months.

"We have decided that all ration card holders in Delhi, around 72 lakh in numbers, will be given free ration for the next two months," said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Taking stock of the current situation, he stated that it does not mean that the lockdown will continue for the next two months, it is just to help the poor who are going through financial crises during the pandemic.

Last week the Delhi government had said that it had disbursed ex gratia payments of Rs 5,000 each to construction workers registered under the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

Delhi CM Kejriwal has also urged all the people and political parties to help each other without doing any politics during the trying times.
