NEW DELHI | JULY 02, 2020:
At least 50 bodies of jade miners were recovered from the mud on Thursday after a landslide struck northern Myanmar, reports stated.
According to reports, the miners were collecting stones in the jade-rich Hpakant area of Kachin state when a "muddy wave" caused by heavy rain buried them.
"The jade miners were smothered by a wave of mud, which hit after heavy rainfall," Myanmar's Fire Services Department said, adding a "search and rescue is ongoing".
Deadly landslides and other accidents are common in the poorly regulated mines of Hpakant.
