NEW DELHI:

The Serum Institute of India (SII) has applied to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to produce the Russian-based Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine in India, various media sources reported on Thursday.

Currently, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) has tied up with Hyderabad-based Dr. Reddy's Labs to manufacture the vaccine in India.

The SII is also involved in the production of AstraZeneca's Covishield and Novovax, the latter procuring an emergency use authorisation (EUA) by the DCGI in April.

Additionally, a consignment of 30 lakh doses of Sputnik V landed in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
