Centre approves allocation of additional foodgrains to NFSA beneficiaries under PMGKAY

A total number of 81.35 crore beneficiaries covered under the PMKGAY will get 5 kg per person each month free of cost under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the Union Cabinet informed.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the allocation of additional foodgrains under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKAY) Phase-IV for another five months from July to November 2021.

A total number of 81.35 crore beneficiaries covered under the PMGKAY will get 5 kg per person each month free of cost under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the Union Cabinet informed.

The union cabinet informed that the total expenditure borne for the additional foodgrains will cost the centre Rs.67,266.44 crore.

Further, the government has retaliated that no poor family will suffer on account of the non-availability of food grains due to disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the government will continue to offer additional subsidies in whichever way possible.
