2553 fresh cases reported in last 24 hours; 11761 recovered so far

A total of 2553 fresh confirmed cases of novel coronavirus or COVID-19 have been reported in the country in the last 24 hours taking the total number to 42,836 and out of them, 11, 761 patients have recovered so far with 1389 deaths.
While talking to the media in New Delhi, Health Ministry official said that the recovery rate of patients from COVID-19 infection has gone up to 27.52 per cent. He also informed that Outcome ratio which indicates status of closed COVID19 cases among people who either recovered or passed away, has improved to 90:10 today which was 80:20 on 17th of April.
The Health Ministry official said that we are transitioning to a new normal where we need to compulsorily wear face masks and covers in public places and to follow preventive measures outside containment zones as well.
He said, as lockdown is being eased in a staggered manner, it is imperative to continue rigorous containment measures, effective clinical management, infection prevention and control.In pandemics such as COVID-19, historically it has been noted that if social distancing is not respected when social mobility is allowed, chances of disease transmission increase rapid once restrictions are eased.
He said, therefore, to prevent such a situation and to maintain the benefits of lockdown, people should understand their social responsibility and diligently follow all protocols and guidelines.
Home Ministry official said that the control room set up by the Ministry is working round the clock and and 12,000 grievances have been addressed till 3rd of this month. She said, the government has asked the States to ensure that there are no issues in inter state cargo movement. She said, in case of any difficulties, drivers and transporters can contact Home Ministry Control Room Number 1930 and NHAI helpline number 1033 to lodge any complaint pertaining to lockdown.
The official explained that, considering increasing COVID-19 infection among police and security forces, Home Ministry has issued advisory to all states, UTs and Central Armed Police Forces, drawing attention to the guidelines issued by Union Home Ministry on safety at work place.
She also reiterated the provisions applicable in the third phase of lockdown which has commenced today.
During the briefing , Chairman of the Empowered Group 6, Amitabh Kant gave details of how the Group has been engaging with Civil Society Organizations, NGOs, Industry and International Organisations to combat COVID-19 and galvanize action on various fronts.
