Iran successfully test-fires cruise missiles during naval drill

NEW DELHI: Iran, on Thursday, successfully test-fired its cruise missiles during a naval drill in the Gulf of Oman.

According to sources, the missiles reached the northern part of the Indian ocean.

“Enemies should know that any violation and invasion of Iranian marine borders will be targeted by the cruise missiles from both coast and sea,” said Adm. Hamzeh Ali Kaviani, a spokesperson for the exercise.

The two-day drill, which began on Wednesday, is to strengthen the naval power amid tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme, “and a US pressure campaign against the Islamic Republic.”

Following the exercise, the country’s navy also inaugurated its largest military vessel.

Earlier in 2018, President Donald Trump had withdrawn the United States from Iran’s nuclear deal.

Later, when the US re-imposed its sanctions on Iran, it gradually proceeded on its nuclear development.
