'World's loneliest elephant' lands in Cambodia

An elephant dubbed as the "world's loneliest elephant" landed in Cambodia from Pakistan on Monday.

The 36-year-old elephant named Kaavan received a warm welcome from American superstar Cher, who travelled to Pakistan to see him off and also accompanied him to a sanctuary housing potential mates.

In 2016, the elephant sparked a global uproar when an animal welfare group called Four Paws International, petitioned for his relocation from an Islamabad zoo.

"Cambodia is pleased to welcome Kaavan. No longer will he be 'the world's loneliest elephant,'" deputy environment minister Neth Pheaktra said.
