WASHINGTON:

The state department on Monday advised all American citizens to reconsider any international touring by stating that it would issue specific warnings not to visit roughly 80 per cent of the world’s countries because of risks from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Though the notice issued by the department is not a formal global advisory, it states that the department will start using Centers for Disease Control and Prevention standards as it plans health and safety guidelines for individual countries.

Given those standards, about 80 per cent of countries will fall under the category of “Level 4” or “do not travel.”

“The Covid-19 pandemic continues to pose unprecedented risks to travellers. In light of those risks, the Department of State strongly recommends US citizens reconsider all travel abroad,” the notice stated.

The state department’s appraisal for COVID-19 includes infection rates and the availability of local testing and treatment.
