UK-India flights resume after two weeks suspension

NEW DELHI:

The Government of India, on Friday, resumed passenger flights from the United Kingdom (UK) after a 16-day suspension.

Flight services between the two nations were stopped because of the new coronavirus variant discovered in the UK.

Indian Airlines (AI) 112 was the first flight to land at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in New Delhi on Friday.

Earlier, Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had announced that only 30 flights per week would operate between India and the UK between January 8 and January 23.

The ministry also made the RT-PCR test compulsory for all passengers on arrival.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that travellers coming from the UK to the national capital would have to undergo a seven-day institutional quarantine and a seven-day home quarantine even if they test negative on arrival.
