NEW DELHI:

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov discussed key international issues during their meeting on Tuesday.

Both nations discussed economic cooperation between New Delhi and Moscow and new opportunities in the Russian Far East.

Addressing a joint statement with Lavrov, Jaishankar said that both nations had discussions on International North-South Transport Corridor and Chennai Vladivostok Maritime Corridor.

The discussions, however, centred around the preparations for President Vladimir Putin's visit for the annual summit to be held in India later this year.

Both nations asserted on economic cooperation amid the growing Chinese concerns in the region.

Speaking about the renewed ties, Jaishankar stated, "Our bilateral cooperation remains energetic and forward-looking. We talked about the long-standing partnership in the nuclear space and defence sectors."

"We assess our economic cooperation (positively), noting new opportunities in the Russian far east," added Jaishankar.
