Major quake off Alaska triggers tsunami warning

ANCHORAGE:

A reported 7.5 magnitude earthquake that shook buildings along the southern coast of Alaska on Monday also triggered a tsunami warning.

US agencies confirmed that there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Several communities along the southern coast felt the quake, including Sand Point, Chignik, Unalaska and the Kenai Peninsula.

According to the Alaska Earthquake Center, a magnitude 5.2 aftershock was reported 11 minutes later, centred roughly in the same area.

This earthquake has prompted a tsunami warning stretching across the Eastern third of the Aleutian Islands up to Cook Inlet SW of Anchorage.
