History made at Old-Trafford as Manchester United demolish Southampton 9-0

 |

LONDON:

It was a historic night in the Premier League as Manchester United thrashed Southampton at the Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The Red Devils (Man Utd) registered a record-equalling 9-0 win — a feat they managed for the first time since 1995 when they did so against Ipswitch Town at the same venue.

The Red Devils are the only side in Premier League history to win with a 9 goal margin twice.

The match also saw Southampton being the only side in Premier League history to lose 9-0 twice, as they lost 9-0 to Leicester City in 2019.

"They were ruthless, they drove it on," Solskjaer said in his post-game press conference.

"Harry Maguire(Defender), Victor Lindelof(Defender), David de Gea(Goalie), Scott McTominay(Mid-fielder) played it quickly into their half. They wanted it more and more."

"When you play football you have to make the most of it. They played like it could have been their last game so very pleased with everyone," he added.

"What I liked about it was the hunger and attitude to do the right things, get better, practise good habits, that’s the only way to get better. You can see loads of things we are working on. We want to be a bit unpredictable. The players did that excellently, freedom and imagination played down the sides, it was positive and something we can look at."

After this historic win, the Red Devils now sit at the top of the Premier League level at points with their city rivals Machester City.
