Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp services down

NEW DELHI:

Social networking websites WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook were reportedly down in India and some other parts of the world. On Monday night, around 9.15 pm, users reported server errors when attempting to access the popular social media platforms through either their mobile apps or on their desktop.

Almost three billion people, including businesses and governments, use the three services put together, making any kind of server outage a costly affair. On Instagram alone, over 90 million photos and videos are uploaded per day. It takes thousands of data servers for each of these websites to function smoothly.

Although not a recognised disorder, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - V considers social media addiction (or Internet addiction) a "condition for further study".
