Ethiopian forces arrest 17 suspects over communal riot

NEW DELHI: The Western Ethiopian forces arrested 17 suspects for their alleged involvement in communal violence that broke out, in Metekel zone's Bekoji village.

The forces also recovered 20 arrows from the 17 individuals, on Monday.

Reportedly, Bekoji village was attacked by suspected ethnic Gumuz militants, leaving 207 people dead, in December 2020.

Of the 207 deceased, 133 were adult men, 35 adult women, 20 elderly persons, and 17 children, including a six-month-old baby, Ethiopian Human Rights Commission(Ethiopian parliament establishment) confirmed.

The ethnic clashes over power and land resources in Ethiopia's Benishangul-Gumuz have cost hundreds and thousands of civilians' lives, in the past few months.
