Government begins COVID-19 vaccine dry run in four states
NEW DELHI:
While India recorded its lowest single-day rise in COVID-19 in about six months on Monday, the government started dry runs of the COVID-19 vaccination programme in four states.
The two-day dry run comes ahead of the Centre’s proposed ambitious vaccination drive likely to be started in January.
The Centre scheduled the dry run for December 28 and 29 in Punjab, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
The dry run aims to test the planned operations and the mechanisms for COVID-19 vaccination in the states.
It will provide insights to any gaps or gridlocks that need to be addressed before the actual drive begins.
The exercise will include necessary data entry in Co-WIN, testing for cold storage and transportation arrangements for the COVID-19 vaccine, an online platform for monitoring vaccine delivery, testing receipt and allocation, deployment of team members, management of crowd at the session sites with proper physical distancing, and mock drills of session sites with beneficiaries.
