THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Union Minister V Muraleedharan on Thursday announced that E Sreedharan would be the BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate for next month's Kerala Assembly elections.

"Kerala BJP will fight Kerala polls with E Sreedharanji as its chief ministerial candidate. We will defeat both CPM and Congress to provide corruption-free, development-oriented governance for the people of Kerala," Muraleedharan said.

88-year old Muraleedharan, who is commonly known as the 'Metro Man', joined the BJP on February 18, 2021, ahead of Kerala Legislative Assembly Elections.

The BJP's decision to project Sreedharan as its CM candidate in the southern state is significant since there are no other prominent persons who represents Kerala better among the party members, sources said.

BJP Kerela Chief K Surendran, however, was critical of the decision as he said that Sreedharan is relatively new to politics.
