All England Championships: Sindhu enters quarterfinal

BIRMINGHAM:

Shuttler PV Sindhu put up an extremely dominant display as she made her way into the quarterfinals of the All England Open Badminton Championships with a straight 21-8,21-8 win over Denmark's Line Christophersen on Thursday.

Japan's Akane Yamaguchi will take on Sindhu in the next round.

However, the Indian doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty bowed out of the tournament after losing to Danish pair Kim Astrup-Anders and Skaarup Rasmussen.

Likewise, Sai Praneeth lost to second seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark.

In the women's doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki advanced into the quarterfinals by defeating Bulgarian pair Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva.

Lakshaya Sen also won against France’s Thomas Rouxel 21-18, 21-17 to enter the quarter-finals.
