After Reliance, Airtel displays 5G technology

NEW DELHI:

Ahead of the 5G technology deployment in India, there are a handful of companies who have come out to display the technological advancement made in the field so far.

While Reliance seems to be a major investor in the upcoming spectrum race, Airtel on Thursday announced it had become the first Indian telecom company to successfully demonstrate live 5G service over a commercial network.

Airtel conducted the trails in Hyderabad city over its existing spectrum in the 1800 MHz band through the Non-Stand Alone (NSA) network technology.

The company noted that it is ready to launch the 5G services without the mid-band with the help of existing 4G spectrum bands, but it would wait for the government to release the 5G spectrum.

The Telcom company also claimed that the much-awaited 5G technology would deliver 10x speeds viz-a-viz current network speeds.

The company informed that during the 5G trails in Hyderabad, users could download a full-length movie in a matter of seconds on a 5G phone, a first of its kind real-time test.

However, the 5G network will only be available when the adequate spectrum is available after government approvals.

The Department of Telecommunications (DOT) will start with the 5G spectrum auctions before India gears up for the future of high-speed mobile technology.
