Agartala: Shri Tathagata Roy was born and brought up in West Bengal, but it would be surprising to know that he has a unique bonding with Tripura. His grandfather, Raisaheb Surendranath Dutta was the dewan of the royal family of Tripura, one of Shri Roy's sister-in laws is Tripura's daughter itself considering her paternal house is located in the state and one of his relatives is the owner of Mantala tea garden situated in Sadar North. The current residence of Tathagata Roy is in Kolkata yet his ancestral home is in Bangladesh. Shri Roy has visited Tripura but never got the chance to relish the state's utterly favourite dry fish.

Refusing to comment on CPI-M State Secretary, Bijan Dhar's ire provoked by appointment as Governor, Shri Roy does not intent to transcend the ambit of the Constitution as Governor knowing that he has to step in only when there is a Constitutional crisis and believing that insurgency in Tripura is gradually fading away.

Shri Roy also sees a possibility of well utilisation of natural gas and tourism in Tripura and wants to request the Central government to facilitate the transit route of Tripura which would develop the road transport system consequently enabling people from outer states to visit the state in a much easier way.

According to sources of the State administration, Shri Tathagata Roy is scheduled to be sworn in as Governor of Tripura on 20th May, 2015 and he will be administered the oath of office by Chief Justice, Agartala High Court, Deepak Gupta. However, it is yet to be confirmed whether the outgoing Governor P B Acharya will be present at the swearing-in ceremony or not.
