AGARTALA: The Tripura cabinet has approved the amendment of the State Legal Service Authority Rule for 2015. According to the amendment, the State Legal Service Authority would give free legal service to people whose annual income is not above Rs. 1.5 lakh.

Tripura Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha informed about the cabinet decision at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday late evening.

"The people whose annual income is found not to be above Rs. 1.5 lakh, would be provided legal services without charging anything from the part of State Legal Service Authority," Saha said.

Earlier, the free legal service is limited to people earning Rs. 1 lakh per annum.

The Legal Service institution has been provided the power to take initiatives to fight for the rights of economically weaker sections of the people.

On a different note, Saha said that the government would face the heat to conduct the centrally sponsored schemes as the central share in different schemes has been reduced.

"The state government would have to bear 30 percent expenses for different schemes after the central share has been curtailed. Earlier, the central and state government share was 90: 10," the minister said.
