Sikkim: 3 teachers conferred with National Award on Teachers’ Day

In what may be termed as proud moment for Sikkim, three teachers from Sikkim have been conferred with the National Award for Teachers for the year 2017.

Motilal Koirala, Mamta Awasthy and Karma Chomu Bhutia of Sikkim received the award from the Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu today.

Others who received the award from Northeast India are Sutapa Sur from Tripura, Sashanka Hazarika, from Darrang, Assam, Murugan, a mathematics and science teacher in Nagaland, Lutni Perm, Headmaster of a school in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, GS Zaithantluanga from Mizoram and Khangembam Indrakumar Singh from Manipur.

Sikkim led the way by bagging 3 awards out of all states.

The award carries a citation, a silver medal and a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Human Resource Development recently revised the guidelines for the selection of teachers for National Awards, 2017. Under the revised guidelines, all the regular teachers will be eligible to apply and they should have at least a minimum 15 years of work experience.
